Design Nerdiness and Patterns

I'm kind of a design nerd. I design for work and then come home and do it all over again for fun. Most people come home and chill after work. I come home, draw root vegetables and turn them into a pattern. Totally normal.

Right now I'm taking a class from the amazing Lilla Rogers. It's been a great experience so far. I especially love pattern design (I've been doing it as my day job for quite a few years now!) so the first assignment of fabric design was a great beginning to the class. The above is the finished product. I plan on posting more as the class goes on, so keep checking back!

All You Need Is Love

After being m.i.a. from the blog for quite a while, I figured it was time to start picking it back up. I've been having a lot of fun doing random personal projects lately and thought I'd share some of the stuff I've been working on. I've been wanting to do something with this quote for a while now and finally came up with this guy a few months ago. Hope you like it! Check it out here and here in my Etsy and Society6 shops.

Craft Lake City

I've been m.i.a. the past few weeks gearing up for Craft Lake City, planning, organizing and designing new product. (My internal clock is probably permanently set at 2 am after all the late nights working on stuff!) My friend Courtney Blair and I have been having a crazy but fun time getting everything done. Putting things together for a show is always a bit stressful and super busy, but I think it was all worth it in the end. We met a lot of great people, learned some new things and overall had a pretty successful and exciting time. Thanks to everyone who came to support us!

Here are a few photos for anyone who missed it (courtesy of my friend Caytlyn who was nice enough to let me use her photos. Check out her awesome blog here!)

Courtney and I shared a booth, one side for NiftySwank:

And the other for Pattern Daily (which was full of amazing lettering and gig posters):

It was awesome to see all the product come together.

Here's Courtney manning the booth while I snap a photo. We were loving all the lights!

It was such a great experience we are already planning for next year! All the new product will soon be in the shop, so be sure the check back for updates and new stuff!

All Sorts of Change

Sometimes it's time for a change and that's where I'm at right now. I'm currently updating the branding for NiftySwank and thought I would share my new logo. I have a new look and new product coming soon, so be sure to check back! And check out the booth I'm sharing with my talented friend Courtney at Craft Lake City August 9th and 10th if you happen to be in Salt Lake this summer!

Spoonflower Fabric8 Finals: Vote now!

My final collection, Retrospective, for the Spoonflower Fabric8 contest is done and voting has begun! If you get a chance, please vote for me here. It's an amazing chance to win a fabric contract with Robert Kaufman fabrics, which would be awesome!

I've added a few more patterns that go with the collection, but aren't part of the four patterns in the voting. But I thought they were fun, so I added them to this post. Don't forget to vote! Thanks!

Update: I made it to the top 8 (which was awesome!) but didn't end up winning the overall contest. Congratulations to the winner and you can still order my collection through Spoonflower. Thanks to everyone who voted for me, you guys are amazing!
